1. Nalam Kaakkum Stalin Scheme | நலம் காக்கும் ஸ்டாலின் திட்டம்
- A state-wide health initiative by the Tamil Nadu government to provide comprehensive medical services at the doorstep through special health camps, focusing on preventive and diagnostic care.
- A health initiative launched on 2 August 2025 in Chennai (St. Bede’s Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School, Mylapore ) by CM M.K. Stalin to provide comprehensive medical services at people’s doorsteps.
- Covers 1,256 medical camps across all 38 districts of Tamil Nadu.
- The scheme offers free master health check-ups, ECG, X-ray, blood tests, cancer screenings, TB/leprosy checks, and on-the-spot medicine distribution.
- Digital health records will be maintained.
- Beneficiaries include the elderly, differently-abled persons, pregnant women, children, tribal communities, and people with chronic diseases.
2. Tamil Nadu Birth Rate Decline |பிறப்பு விகிதம் குறைவு
- The state recorded a 6.09% fall in the birth rate in 2024 compared to 2023.
- Live births dropped from 9,02,306 to 8,42,412, with the birth rate now at 10.9 per 1,000 people.
- The number of live births in 2024 was significantly lower than the previous five years, where it consistently stayed above 900,000.
- The birth rate in Tamil Nadu fell to 10.9, compared to 11.7 in the previous year.
- Tamil Nadu's TFR (Total Fertility Rate) of 1.4 indicates a declining population trend, as it is below the replacement level.
3. Vinfast Electric Vehicle Plant in Thoothukudi | வின்பாஸ்ட் மின் வாகன தொழிற்சாலை – தூத்துக்குடி
- Vinfast - first Indian plant at SIPCOT Industrial Park, Thoothukudi, on 4 August 2025.
- Vietnamese EV maker VinFast launched its first assembly plant outside Vietnam in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, becoming a landmark in India’s EV ecosystem.
- With an investment of ₹16,000 crore, the plant has an initial capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year (expandable to 150,000) and is expected to generate 3,500 jobs.
- It will serve as a South Asia export hub.
4. Tamil Nadu – 1st in Organ Transplants | உடல் உறுப்பு மாற்றத்தில் தமிழ்நாடு முதலிடம்
- For the eighth consecutive year, Tamil Nadu ranked first in India for organ transplantation.
- Tamil Nadu received the award for the best State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) from the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) on the occassion of the 13th Indian Organ Donation day .
- This is due to the state’s well-coordinated cadaver organ donation programme and awareness campaigns.
5. Thayumanavar Scheme | தாயுமானவர் திட்டம்
- To be launched on 12 August 2025 in Chennai by CM M.K. Stalin, this scheme will deliver ration goods like rice, sugar, and kerosene directly to the homes of the elderly and differently-abled people who cannot visit ration shops.
- This scheme aims to providing doorstep delivery of essential commodities to senior citizens above 70 years of age and persons with disabilities.
- The Chief Minister's Thayumanavar scheme aims to ensure that vulnerable sections of society receive their Public Distribution System (PDS) entitlements without the difficulty of visiting Ration Shops.
- Observed on 7 August to honour India’s weaving community and promote handloom products.
- The date commemorates the launch of the Swadeshi Movement on August 7, 1905, which encouraged the use of indigenous products and promoted the handloom industry as a form of economic resistance against colonial rule.
- The day aims to raise awareness about the importance of hand-woven products and encourage their use, aligning with the "Vocal for Local" initiative.
- Theme for National Handloom Day 2025 : Handlooms – Empowering Women, Empowering the Nation.
- This theme emphasizes the significant role women play in the handloom sector, as they comprise over 70% of the workforce.
7. National Award for Tamil Documentary | ‘Little Wings’ ஆவணப்படத்திற்கு தேசிய விருது
- The Tamil documentary Little Wings won the National Award in the Non-Feature Film category at the 71st National Film Awards.
- The cinematographers honored for their work on "Little Wings" are Saravanamaruthu Soundarapandi (posthumously) and Meenakshi Soman. The director of "Little Wings" is Naveen Mu.
- The film highlights social issues and has been recognised for its impactful storytelling.
8. Tamil Nadu Economic Growth | தமிழகத்தின் பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சி – இரட்டை இலக்கத்தில் GSDP
- The state recorded an 11.19% economic growth rate in 2024–25 — its first double-digit growth in 14 years — driven mainly by manufacturing and services sector expansion.
- Tamil Nadu's growth rate of 11.19% is significantly higher than the national average of 6.5% and the highest among major states.
- The growth has been primarily driven by the services sector, with strong contributions from professional services (13.6% growth), communications (13%), and trade, repair, hotels, and restaurants (11.7%).
- The manufacturing and construction segments within the secondary sector have also shown significant growth at 8% and 10.6% respectively.
- This impressive growth is attributed to a combination of progressive governance, targeted welfare policies, and a strong industrial and manufacturing base.
9. P.B. Balaji – CEO of Jaguar Land Rover
- Tamil Nadu-born P.B. Balaji has been appointed as the first Indian CEO of Jaguar Land Rover.
- Effective November 2025, P.B. Balaji will take over as the CEO of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).
- Balaji, who previously served as the Group Chief Financial Officer of Tata Motors (JLR's parent company) since 2017, will be the first Indian CEO of JLR.
- His appointment is seen as a strategic move to deepen JLR's integration with the broader Tata Group and accelerate its "Reimagine" strategy, which focuses on electric vehicles and sustainable luxury.
10. Asia’s Largest Data Centre in Visakhapatnam | ஆசியாவிலேயே மிகப்பெரிய தரவு மையம் விசாகப்பட்டினத்தில் அமைக்க உள்ளது Google
- Google announced plans to set up Asia’s largest data centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of ₹50,000 crore.
- ₹18,000 crore will be dedicated to renewable energy infrastructure to power the facility.
- Capacity: 1 Giga Watt (GW).
- Significance: It's expected to be the largest data center in Asia in terms of both capacity and investment size.
