Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) 2025

Overview & Recent Updates

The Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) has released the TNTET 2025 notification on August 11, 2025 and started the application process the same day .

Due to administrative reasons, the exam dates have been rescheduled:

  • Paper I: now on November 15, 2025

  • Paper II: now on November 16, 2025

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

  • Minimum: 18 years

  • No maximum age limit

Educational Qualifications

Paper I (for teaching Classes 1–5):

  • Higher Secondary (10+2) with ≥ 50% marks plus D.El.Ed (2-year) (passed or appearing), or

  • Higher Secondary with ≥ 50% plus B.El.Ed (4-year), or

  • Other combinations like Graduation with D.El.Ed or B.Ed, etc.
    Note: 5% relaxation for reserved categories (SC/ST/BC/MBC/DNC/PwD) 

Paper II (for teaching Classes 6–8):

  • Graduation with ≥ 50% plus B.Ed (passed or appearing),

  • Or equivalent combinations such as Graduation + D.El.Ed, 4-year B.El.Ed, B.Ed (Special Education), etc.
    Again, 5% relaxation applies for reserved categories. 


Application Process – Step by Step

  1. Visit the official TN TRB website: https://trb.tn.gov.in/

  2. Click the TNTET 2025 notification link and download the PDF.

  3. Click Apply Online, which leads to the UcanApply portal. 

  4. Register using your details and upload:

    • Passport-size photo (20–60 KB)

    • Signature (10–30 KB)

    • Government ID, qualification certificates, etc. 

  5. Pay the application fee:

    • General/OBC: ₹600

    • SC/ST/PwD and other reserved: ₹300 

  6. Submit, then download and save/print your confirmation page or registration number.

    • Note: A correction window may open later for editing limited fields. 


Exam Pattern & Scheme

Structure for Both Papers

  • Mode: OMR-based (Offline).

  • Duration: 3 hours each.

  • Total marks: 150; all MCQs with no negative marking

Paper I (Classes 1–5)

  • 5 sections, each with 30 questions:

    1. Child Development & Pedagogy (6–11 yrs)

    2. Language I (Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam/Kannada/Urdu)

    3. Language II (English)

    4. Mathematics

    5. Environmental Studies 

Paper II (Classes 6–8)

  • 4 sections:

    1. Child Development & Pedagogy (11–14 yrs) – 30 Qs

    2. Language I – 30 Qs

    3. Language II – 30 Qs

    4. Mathematics & Science or Social Science or any other subject – 60 Qs

Paper I

  • Child Development & Pedagogy: Physical, cognitive, emotional, moral development; learning theories, constructivism.

  • Language I & II: Comprehension, speaking, reading, vocabulary, language functions.

  • Mathematics: Number systems, arithmetic, algebra, geometry.

  • Environmental Studies: Basics like family, food, shelter, water, travel, plants. 

Paper II

  • Child Development & Pedagogy: Psychology fundamentals, intelligence, creativity, motivation, mental health, counseling.

  • Language I & II: Same as Paper I.

  • Mathematics & Science OR Social Science:

    • Maths & Science: Number system, algebra, life science, geometry.

    • Social Science: History, geography, civics, economics.

No — TNTET is strictly a written eligibility test. Qualifying doesn’t guarantee a job; it only certifies eligibility. 

Q: What is the minimum passing score?

General category: 60% (i.e., 90 out of 150)

Reserved categories: same percentage (but note mark relaxation applies in eligibility, not in passing) 

Q: Is the certificate valid for a lifetime?

Yes — once obtained, the TNTET qualifying certificate remains valid indefinitely.
