1. NISAR Satellite : NASA - ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar Satellite

  • NISAR is a joint radar imaging satellite mission by NASA and ISRO. It offers advanced Earth surface monitoring.

  • Successfully launched on 30 July 2025 via GSLV‑F16 from Sriharikota. 

  • Collaboration between India (ISRO) and the United States (NASA) .

  • Dual‑frequency Synthetic Aperture Radar (L‑band & S‑band) capable of penetrating clouds/light conditions with a 12‑day revisit cycle and ~1 cm surface change detection . 

  • It will be the first Radar Imaging Satellite to use dual frequencies. 

  • Benefits: High-resolution mapping for climate monitoring, disaster prediction (earthquakes, landslides), glacier and forest health, agriculture, water resources and environmental management

2. U.S. Imposes 25% Tariff on Indian Exports

  • Announced by U.S. President Trump on 30 July 2025, effective from  August 1st, 2025

  • This announcement was decalred due to India's acquisitions of energy and military assets from Russia.

  • It will not be applicable on the  exempted  categories included finished Pharmaceutical drugs , APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) , Energy Products ( Example: Crude oil , Natural gas etc., ) , and a wide range of electronics and semiconductors .

  • Problems India May Face:

    • Reduced competitiveness in U.S. markets for textiles, gems & jewellery, pharmaceuticals, autos; potential decline in exports.
    •  Near-term market volatility and trade disruption; though macro fundamentals seen as strong, certain sectors may suffer short‑term setbacks 

3. President’s Rule in Manipur

  • Imposed initially on 13 February 2025 after political instability and resignation of the CM amid ethnic violence; extended for six months effective 13 August 2025 

  • Invoked under Article 356 of the Indian Constitution, which empowers central government to assume administration of a state under failure of constitutional machinery 

  • Short Hint :

    • Article 356 — President’s Rule: initial six-month validity; can extend up to three years by Parliament resolution every six months.

    • State assembly is suspended or dissolved; President retains power to revoke earlier if Lok Sabha rejects extension 


4. 71st National Filmfare Awards 2025 (Announced August 1st, 2025)

  • The 71st National Film Awards, presented by the National Film Development Corporation of India, were announced on 1 August 2025 to honour the best of Indian cinema in 2023

  • Winners List 2025:

    • Best Actor (Feature Films): Shah Rukh Khan & Vikrant Massey (for Jawan and 12th Fail) – joint win

    • Best Actress: Rani Mukerji (for Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway)

    • Best Feature Film: 12th Fail (Hindi)

    • Best Popular Film: Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani (Hindi)

    • Sam Bahadur won 3 awards; The Kerala Story received 2; Kathal named Best Hindi Film

    • Best Actor in a supporting role : M.S. Bhaskar (Parking, Tamil) 

    • Best Screenplay (screenplay writer) : Ramumar Balakrishnan (Parking, Tamil)

    • Best Music Direction : G. V. Prakash kumar (Vaathi, Tamil)

    • Best Tamil Feature Flim  : Parking 


5. World Women’s Chess (2025)

  • FIDE Women’s World Cup: Held in Batumi; Divya Deshmukh (India) won by defeating GM Koneru Humpy in tiebreaks, earning the Grandmaster title and prize money. She becomes India’s 88th and the 44th woman GM .

  • She has won two gold medals and one bronze medal at the Women's Chess Olympiad. In 2025, she won the Women's Chess World Cup and qualified for the Women's Candidates Tournament 2026. She has also won golds at the Asian Championship, the World Junior Championship and the World Youth Championship.


6. World Solar Power Energy Production Survey 2025

  • India’s Position: In 2024, India surpassed Japan to become the 3rd largest solar and wind electricity producer, generating 108,494 GWh, ahead of Japan's 96,459 GWh 

  • Significance: Marks India’s rising role in global renewable energy transition and climate efforts.


7. International Tiger Day – 29 July 2025

  • Celebrated globally on 29 July to highlight tiger conservation and inspire action. In 2025, India remains home to ~75% of wild tigers, leading efforts via Project Tiger, doubling populations in a decade.


8. World Breastfeeding Week – 1 to 7 August 2025

  • It's a global campaign to promote breastfeeding and improve the health of babies worldwide.

  • Observed annually from 1–7 August, organized under the theme “Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.” It underscores lifelong health benefits for both mother and child
